Documentary

During the summer of 2002, we made a short documentary film about the children and their camp experience.  The piece includes interviews with the children and their teachers and includes footage of the children’s own video work.  It chronicles the experience of organizing the camp, and provides an inside look into the emotional ups and downs of the organizers and participants.

The video project was directed by Amy Olk.  Amy is a graduate student of film at Temple University and is specializing in documentary film making and participatory video for non-profit organizations.

Along on the documentary team was also photographer Marta Fodor, a native Hungarian living in Boston, MA.  In addition to shooting the captivating black and whites featured here on the web site, Marta also headed up photography workshops for the children.  She regularly posted the children’s prints at camp for them to proudly behold their own handiwork. The kids returned to Beclean with a communal photo album of memories that they themselves recorded. For most everyone, the video and photo component was the most unique and exciting experience at camp.
