Motivated high school students from Beclean worked tirelessly as camp counselors, forming friendships with the children and coming to understand them in ways they had never done before.

One major component of this year’s camp was video. Children not only saw themselves on video recorded by their camp counselors, but also got to hold the cameras and create some unforgettable footage of their own.

During the summer of 2002, we worked hand in hand with young Romanian artists to create a unique and therapeutic summer camp in the scenic and historic Bucovina region of Romania. 30 children from the Special School in Beclean, Romania attended along with their teachers and caretakers.  In addition to daily workshops in photography, clay, painting and drama, the children took guided nature walks and toured the famous monasteries of Bucovina.
